Greetings!

Several of our consultants recently attended a presentation by a security analyst discussing the ever-evolving security threat landscape. The analyst emphasized that small businesses are being targeted more than ever by cybercriminals since larger businesses continue to fortify their defenses. The global costs of cybercrime as estimated by the Center for Strategic and International Studies is $500 billion, far outweighing the costs of more traditional crimes such as bank robberies. With security threats on the rise, LaSalle Consulting Partners continues to emphasize educating ourselves and our clients on the need for adequate security especially against cyber threats. Security assessment, security awareness training, and investment in prevention measures are the best ways to be proactive. Please contact us if we may be of assistance. Enjoy this issue of our newsletter.

Network HIPAA Security Rule and Home Workers
The number of staff that work from home has continued to increase at Benefit Fund offices as it has with many other organizations. While this can be beneficial for both the Fund office and the remote worker, it also poses HIPAA related security concerns. Lack of security in the home computer environment can lead to a fund office network breach and/or unauthorized access to electronic personal health information (“ePHI”).

5 Things You Need to Do to Take Your Business Paperless

used with permission from Microsoft
by Cindy Bates

Have you ever noticed an airline pilot lugging a black briefcase on their way to the next flight?  Those briefcases aren’t filled with personal effects, but are 40-pound flight kits containing charts, maps, manuals and guides. Delta airlines recently made a move to replace those bulky flight kits for its 11,000 pilots by giving them each an electronic flight bag in the form of a Microsoft Surface 2 tablet. The cockpit will now be a paperless workspace for Delta pilots, with all Delta cockpits projected to be paperless by the end of 2014.

The concept of the paperless workspace – whether it’s a cockpit, a cubicle, a reception area or remote jobsite – is exciting for numerous reasons: reduced clutter, improved data security, cost savings and environmental benefits, to name a few. Here are 5 steps you need to take to begin creating your version of the paperless cockpit:
